CURRENT ACTIVITIES

MDCALA seeks to educate Maryland citizens about the changes needed to stop lawsuit abuse through a variety of education and outreach activities including:

Promoting Jury Service
Serving on a jury is the one thing we can all do to stop lawsuit abuse. Our legal system only works when people serve—making jury service one of MDCALA’s key priorities.

Encouraging Personal Responsibility
MDCALA denounces the “blame game” mentality often used as an abusive tactic in our courts. Too often, individuals look for others to blame and sue, instead of accepting personal responsibility for their actions.

“Discourage litigation. Persuade your neighbors to compromise whenever you can.
Point out to them how the nominal winner is often a real loser—in fees, expenses, and
waste of time. As a peacemaker the lawyer has a superior opportunity of being a good
man. There will still be business enough.“
The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln edited
by Roy P. Basler, Volume II, “Notes for a Law Lecture” (July 1, 1850?), p. 81.
